Within the heating ventilation and air conditioning industry it is important to be as environmentally friendly as possible which is why new refrigerants have been rolled out over the last few years as well as new laws that need to be adhered to.

In a partnership between infoDev/World Bank Group and Carbon Trust have established and managed to put a figure on just what exactly the benefits are for small businesses that are operating in clean technology sectors in developing countries.

Over the next decade for those that invest in environmentally friendly technologies in the developing countries are expected to make a pretty penny as the industry is estimated to exceed $6 trillion and just under a quarter of this could be attributed to small and medium businesses which will mean more and more jobs. Not only this but there will be more innovation too which will help to grow businesses.

There has been a report published called ‘Building Competitive Green Idustries: the Climate and Clean Technology Opportunity for Developing Countries.’ Included in this report are what the top three markets would be for these clean technologies. These were established as China, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. China is expected to have a market worth $415 billion, Latin America to have $349 billion and Sub Sarahan Africa is expected to have a market size of $235 billion.

In order to excel in this multi trillion dollar industry the best areas are in onshore wind farms, solar panels, wastewater treatment and electric vehicles.

The report mentioned above was published by infoDev who are a global innovation and entrepreneurship organisation had indicated the importance these green industries will have the local jobs markets. These types of jobs are often a favourite to go after because they require skill which of course means good pay and safety training.

Within the report there are actions to help those looking to set up a small business in one of these new markets to build local green industries. The technical analysis was provided by the Carbon Trust who info/Dev collaborated with.

James Rawlins is the associate director at Carbon Trust and he has said, “Over the coming decade the deployment of clean technologies represents a huge opportunity for developing countries to reap substantial economic rewards – developing local industries and cresting jobs and exports as well as positive environmental outcomes.

“Our analysis shows that SMEs have a key role to play in this and could access around a quarter of the $6 trillion market opportunity. We are already seeing real innovation from developing world SMEs in adapting products for local needs and developing new business models. Enabling and accelerating this should be a priority for policy markets at global and local levels.”
