New Efficient Coating for Air Conditioning Piping

GTR_Copper

K’2013 Solvay Engineering Plastics have been showing their new efficient fluid barrier which is a material to be used in air conditioning systems. It will be used as a coating to protect aluminium piping which according to Technyl eXten can provide cost benefits as well as ecological benefits to replace the current copper.

David Kim is the CEO and GMS Korea and he has said, “Aluminium has a better surface-to-weight ratio, melts at lower temperatures and is far less expensive than copper. Consequently, we were seeking a coating material to support our initiative for replacing copper by aluminium without trading off these benefits and compromising the high surface quality expected by our customers. The Green Deal

GTR_Footprint

Greg Barker is the Energy and Climate minister and has outlined new plans by the Government which will help aid the Green Deal and Renewable Heat Incentive which will come to fruition in 2014.
The Green Deal is the initiative that helps business and homeowners save money on their energy bills. Some of the ways of doing this are having any old insulation replaced, draught proofing, installing double glazing among other things. Other great way to save money is to have your air conditioning unit serviced this winter. This will ensure that when it comes to next summer your unit is running efficiently, not wasting money and you have no nasty surprises when you next want to switch it on.

The Green Deal is in place so homeowners and businesses can make energy-saving changes without having to pay all of the costs up front. The government will lend you the money for the changes and then over time repayments can be made. The theory is that the money you save on the bills will help you repay the loan. Continue reading

New Product from Airedale International

GTR_BelgiumFlag

Airedale International Air Conditioning has launched a brand new range of cooling system which will work using chilled water. They are claiming that this range will outperform their other products in terms of energy efficiency and their carbon footprint as well as in its cooling capacity.

The range comes with capacities from 11 to 233kW and they have been designed and created with the internal heat exchange area at the core of the planning in order to make sure this is maximised. There are other energy efficient improvements that have been made to the SmartCool SD, SN and SR range according to Airedale International.

The SmartCool SD has been given a larger coil area than before and on top of this is has also been given an improved airflow path. Filters have been placed on the face of the coil which provides an extra 15 per cent more surface area for better air flow as low air side pressure drops as a result which then increases the efficiency of the unit as it lowers the power of the fan. On top of this in the SmartCool SD model the energy efficiency has also been increased as the fans are now situated in the floor void. Continue reading

Warm Weather is Bringing more Jellyfish to the UK

GTR_Jellyfish

The warm weather we have seen in recent weeks, although it seems to be slowly slipping away, means that there has been an increase in the amount of jellyfish that have been surrounding the British coast line.

As a result of the very cold and long spring there were very few reports of jellyfish but now they are growing in rapid numbers as well as there being many different species too, according to the Marine Conservation Society. One of these species include Lions Mane and these have a particularly powerful sting so anyone wishing to escape the heat and are heading to the beach are warned not to touch them. Instead you could always escape to the cinema with the cool air conditioning! Continue reading

Centre Court Temperatures Became Unbearable

Tennis

Everyone’s heart stopped on Sunday during the Wimbledon Men’s finals when Andy Murray became the first British man in 77 years to win the title. Since then there have been reports that it was the hottest final ever with temperatures reaching 49.8C in direct sunlight.

Both Murray and his opponent Djokovic looked exhausted from very early on in the match and this is partly due to the intense heat in which they were faced with. They had to keep cool with drinks and ice and they both wore baseball caps for much of the match as temperatures did reach 122F.

Police actually put a warning out to those who were watching the match to keep hydrated and find some shade during the scorching temperatures. Even though the fans were warned, there were still 79 people that were treated by the St John ambulance for heat related issues including, sunburn, heat exhaustion and dehydration.

There were water fountains however many had large queues so many opted for the Pimms instead to keep cool, no doubt this added to the excitement and cheers of the win. Many at centre court were fanning themselves with programmes in a bid to keep cool. It was also suggested that officials moved the roof forward slightly to create some shade. Many on Murray Mount found shelter under union flags and sun umbrellas to try and cope with the heat.

As temperatures reached these highs, we hope that next year they will consider an air conditioning system to help make it more bearable.

Most people who experience heat close to 50C tend to stay in their homes as it is too unbearable and dangerous to be in this for too long. In the southwest dessert area in America temperatures can reach 52 degrees on a regular basis and there aren’t many who brave the streets at this temperature. Having said this though there are around 500,000 people that live in these conditions due to other benefits that come with living in the area. If their cooling systems fail during this time, many are forced to heat to the mountains for some protection.

As these are the reactions of people who have to live in these temperatures, we can only imagine how Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic managed to play the Wimbledon final in the heat.

Replacing an Air Conditioning System

AirConditioning

Replacing air conditioning systems is going to inevitable at some point to ensure that your cooling bills don’t dramatically increase and to keep units running efficiently. If you plan carefully you will be able to have a high performance and a highly efficient system working for those days when it is just too unbearable to sit in the office without it on. What to do if your air conditioning has an odour

Mouse

With summer making an appearance every now and again it is likely that your air conditioning units are being used more frequently than in recent months. When it is left for a while some issues can go unnoticed such as an odour coming from unit. This can be due to a number of reasons but it all comes down to cleaning out the unit.

The first thing to check will be finding out where the smell is coming from. There are a number of sources that need to be checked such as the filter, drain line, drain pan and inside the unit itself. The most obvious thing to look for would be mould or a small dead animal such as a mouse. Do make sure you have switched the air conditioning unit off before carrying out any checks or cleaning.
