With Christmas tomorrow, your office air conditioning is probably the last thing that you are thinking of but take a mental note of these tips and when you get back to the office after too much turkey consider what measures need to be taken to ensure your unit is running efficiently in time for summer.
There tends to be a lot of equipment that generates heat in offices including, printers, computers, scanners and photocopiers. On top of this there are also standards for the insulation levels in offices so this is a recipe for a very hot room and makes cooling an office a slight challenge. Continue reading →
As we keep hammering on about, it is important to have your air conditioning unit serviced and maintained to ensure that you extend the life span of the unit therefore getting more for your money. With winter probably the easiest time to do this as it won’t be in use here are some tips on understanding the MERV ratings that come with filters.
Not all filters are created to be equal and checking the filter has to be a priority, at least once a month. Overall a MERV rating is a measure of the filters performance and usually rate between 1 and 16 although in industrial scenarios they can reach 20. In short, the higher the number the better the performance meaning better filtration especially when there are a considerable amount of small particulates that the filters are capable of capturing. With energy companies increasing their prices yet again this winter it is important to save money where you can whilst also staying warm in your home so we have put together some tips of what can be done to save money and be more environmentally friendly. Being “green” is an overused term to the point where people think everyone is doing it so maybe it doesn’t matter if you don’t recycle that plastic bottle or switch the light off when you leave the room because everyone else is. Well it is important that we all do our bit and save money in the process.
If you have your heating unit tuned up once a year this will help it run more efficiently and therefore reduce your energy usage, saving the planet and the pennies. It is also a good idea to have your air conditioning serviced annually too for the same reasons. Continue reading →
With most of us finally accepting that it is time for the heating to go on and the air conditioning to hibernate for another year we have come up with some fun ways of staying warm over the winter and hopefully you will be able to save some pennies along the way!
There is nothing worse than being cold during the night or when you are trying to get to sleep. We have all had those nights where our teeth have been chattering and our body is shivering just to keep warm but we refuse to put the heating on because it is only October! Well hopefully these day are over, we have found a pyjama warmer so you will at least be toasty warm while you are trying to get to sleep. All you have to do is put your neatly folded pyjama’s into the sack and wait while they warm up. Continue reading →
The F Gas regulations are awaiting a review that can take place any day now and as a result the Climate Center is urging those in the industry to get ahead of the changes.
The European Commission are creating new controls to ensure that the use of refrigerants that could have a very high impact on global warming is monitored and constrained. These F-gases can be used in air conditioning systems that are used in offices. It is expected that in there will be new regulations that will be introduced through-out Europe.
Robert Franklin is the manager of the refrigeration side of the business at the Climate Center has said, “The final details of the F-Gas regime are currently being worked out, but it is clear that the EU will act to reduce the use of very high GWP refrigerants in the future. Continue reading →
K’2013 Solvay Engineering Plastics have been showing their new efficient fluid barrier which is a material to be used in air conditioning systems. It will be used as a coating to protect aluminium piping which according to Technyl eXten can provide cost benefits as well as ecological benefits to replace the current copper.
David Kim is the CEO and GMS Korea and he has said, “Aluminium has a better surface-to-weight ratio, melts at lower temperatures and is far less expensive than copper. Consequently, we were seeking a coating material to support our initiative for replacing copper by aluminium without trading off these benefits and compromising the high surface quality expected by our customers. Greg Barker is the Energy and Climate minister and has outlined new plans by the Government which will help aid the Green Deal and Renewable Heat Incentive which will come to fruition in 2014.
The Green Deal is the initiative that helps business and homeowners save money on their energy bills. Some of the ways of doing this are having any old insulation replaced, draught proofing, installing double glazing among other things. Other great way to save money is to have your air conditioning unit serviced this winter. This will ensure that when it comes to next summer your unit is running efficiently, not wasting money and you have no nasty surprises when you next want to switch it on.
The Green Deal is in place so homeowners and businesses can make energy-saving changes without having to pay all of the costs up front. The government will lend you the money for the changes and then over time repayments can be made. The theory is that the money you save on the bills will help you repay the loan. Continue reading →
Airedale International Air Conditioning has launched a brand new range of cooling system which will work using chilled water. They are claiming that this range will outperform their other products in terms of energy efficiency and their carbon footprint as well as in its cooling capacity.
The range comes with capacities from 11 to 233kW and they have been designed and created with the internal heat exchange area at the core of the planning in order to make sure this is maximised. There are other energy efficient improvements that have been made to the SmartCool SD, SN and SR range according to Airedale International.
The SmartCool SD has been given a larger coil area than before and on top of this is has also been given an improved airflow path. Filters have been placed on the face of the coil which provides an extra 15 per cent more surface area for better air flow as low air side pressure drops as a result which then increases the efficiency of the unit as it lowers the power of the fan. On top of this in the SmartCool SD model the energy efficiency has also been increased as the fans are now situated in the floor void. Continue reading →
The warm weather we have seen in recent weeks, although it seems to be slowly slipping away, means that there has been an increase in the amount of jellyfish that have been surrounding the British coast line.
As a result of the very cold and long spring there were very few reports of jellyfish but now they are growing in rapid numbers as well as there being many different species too, according to the Marine Conservation Society. One of these species include Lions Mane and these have a particularly powerful sting so anyone wishing to escape the heat and are heading to the beach are warned not to touch them. Instead you could always escape to the cinema with the cool air conditioning! Continue reading →
To say the weather has been hot recently comes as an understatement. With many months of waiting for a proper summer, it looks like it is well and truly here. Over the last couple of weeks we have experienced the longest heat wave since 2006 which is perfect for those who are planning on taking a staycation. Continue reading →
