Walmart Call for a new Refrigeration Strategy

GTR_Walmart

The head of refrigeration at Walmart has created a strategy that will be implemented to reduce the amount of refrigerant that they use across the business. Richard Royal has suggested that they use packaged refrigeration solutions rather than using bespoke systems. They are not only looking to reduce the amount of refrigerant used but also the amount of leakage which means that they need simpler systems which calls for simpler processes.

Richard Royal is the senior design manager for refrigeration and his strategy means that there will be a closer integration with the supply chain as well as having a controls system too. He has said that the reason behind the new strategy is to improve the efficiency of the business through simplifying their processes. “We can really impact direct emissions positively. We believe charge reduction will be one of the single biggest issues for us, together with leak reduction.” Continue reading

The Dangers of DIY Air Conditioning Recharges

Summer

Now that summer is officially here most people have started to use the air conditioning in their cars, however some will probably find that theirs isn’t working as it should. Like any component of your vehicle, over the years your air conditioning unit is subjected to wear and tear and therefore needs to be recharged at regular intervals. Unfortunately, this can often be expensive, which is why some people choose to do it themselves instead.

However, it has recently been suggested that recharging your vehicle’s air conditioning yourself can actually be detrimental to both the entire system and your vehicle. Travis Mock, supervisor for AAA Auto Repair, said that recharging your own air conditioner is not as easy as some people make out, which is why it is always best to go to a professional. He claims that people who buy cans of refrigerant are in danger of overcharging their air conditioning units as they don’t have the tools to gauge how full they are. Continue reading

Service your Unit

GTR_Screws

Temperatures are on the rise (thankfully) so it is important that you don’t forget the machine that is going to keep your employees comfortable and productive throughout the summer; your air conditioning unit.

There have been reports that 40% of air conditioning units that are not maintained properly and need a repair leave users without a cooling unit for at least a day, which during a day that reaches record temperatures, it is a very long day.

The president of Sig Cox Heating and Air Conditioning is John Haynie and he has suggested that the average lifespan of a unit is between 10 and 13 years. The best way to ensure that your unit last this long is through preventative maintenance and regular servicing. Continue reading

Environmentally Friendly Refrigerant for Vehicles

GTR_Cars

Which refrigerants that you should and shouldn’t be using in your air conditioning systems have been a hot topic for a while now to ensure that they become environmentally friendly and over the years this is exactly what has happened. DuPont have now announced that they believe there will be 3 million vehicles around the world that will be using the HFO-1234yf refrigerant by the end of this year.

The president of DuPont chemicals and fluoroproducts is Thierry F.J.Vanlancker and he has said “The EPA credits alone provide enough incentive to automakers that we expect to see more than 50 per cent of automobiles in the U.S market converted to HFO-1234yf by 2018.

“Of course, we expect higher conversions in the European market, driven by the need to comply with the MAC Directive.” Continue reading

Energy Saving

GTR_EcoTree

We have had a few days of sunshine which proved to us that spring is actually here but other than the odd scorcher, spring has looked like it hasn’t sprung. However, at GT Refrigeration we are here to tell you that it is in fact spring and on those days when we do get the temperatures that make us want to drag our computers out into the office courtyard, we have some energy saving tips for you.

The first reaction to a temperature change (as it gets hotter) is to blast cold air throughout the office so no one overheats or falls asleep at their desk! It may not come as a surprise to you that this actually isn’t efficient and it really isn’t right for your colleagues to be sitting in jumpers and scarves at their desks when it is nearing 30 degrees outside. Not only is this, but there are likely to be a few sick days due to people catching colds in the middle of summer! Continue reading

Controlling your Allergies with Air Conditioning

GTR_Pollen

Allergy season is upon us and for those that suffer it is not a pleasant time of year. There are some things you can do though to reduce the impact that these have on you.

The main reason for allergies this time of year is because of the pollen that is coming from flowering trees and plants and when these get inside your home or office space, the effects can be amplified. This is because they then mix with the allergens that are inside; these include dust, mould spores, mites and animal fur.

With a little bit of effort it is possible to reduce the effects that all these causes have on you starting with paying attention to the pollen counts. When it looks like it is going to be high, try to stay indoors as much as possible. At your office there is always the air conditioning unit that you can switch on to stay cool rather than opening a window. Continue reading
